The Councillor for the Missions fosters missionary spirit and commitment throughout the Society.

He coordinates the initiatives and directs activity in the missions so that they respond in a Salesian style to the urgent needs of the peoples to be evangelised. It is also his duty to see that provision is made for the specific preparation and updating of the missionaries. (C 138)
