Questo incontro per la revisione del manuale del direttore (MSD) ha origine nel mandato del GC27 #69.11: l’aggiornamento del MSD.

Dopo il seminario di studio sull’Accompagnamento Personale Salesiano (22-24 aprile 2016, Casa Generalizia, Roma) abbiamo ricevuto un feedback da alcuni di voi, dicendo che il direttore salesiano è un tema di importanza capitale per la vita della congregazione e per il discorso della formazione permanente. Questa figura che è stata più colpita dai cambiamenti culturali, sociali, religiosi, e salesiani degli anni recenti. Dobbiamo ripensare non solo il manuale ma la figura, identità, ruolo, funzioni del direttore salesiano. E questo è vero.

In fatti, la revisione del MSD è un piccolo punto nello sforzo del CG27 di richiamare tutti noi a una radicalità evangelica, alla profezia della fraternità. In questo contesto e con questo scopo il capitolo ci chiede una revisione del DSM (#69.11). Si può vedere anche #69.10: l’insistenza sulla formazione dei direttori già suggerito da CG21 e CG25. Qui c’è la riconoscenza che il direttore è una delle chiavi per la costruzione di fraternità, e per la formazione intesa come permanente e continua.

Per questo, abbiamo riformulato l’obiettivo di questo incontro: partendo dallo studio del manuale del direttore (1986) e da quanto concerne questa figura chiave della vita delle comunità negli ultimi Capitoli Generali,

1. confrontarsi con la situazione attuale del ministero dei direttori salesiani nelle varie regioni del mondo.
2. Far emergere le aree che necessitano più attenzione in questo servizio basilare di animazione e governo.
3. Individuare i percorsi possibili ed efficaci per rispondere alle sfide emergenti e offrire strumenti idonei per aiutare ispettorie e comunità a rinnovarsi nella fedeltà al nostro carisma valorizzando al meglio il ruolo fondamentale che i direttori hanno nella vita della Congregazione.

Useremo il metodo di ascolto, interpretazione, cammino che abbiamo usato nel CG27 e nel seminario di studio sull’accompagnamento personale salesiano. Questo è stato il metodo anche degli ultimi due sinodi – nella convinzione che Dio agisce in tutto il popolo e parla attraverso tutta la chiesa.

4° sessione: Studio personale: lettura dei contributi; confronto con le esperienze emerse dalle relazioni; identificazione personale delle “aree emergenti”

Sabato

1° sessione: Aree emergenti: lavoro di gruppo

2° sessione: assemblea

3° sessione: Identificazione del percorso per un ripensamento della figura del direttore: lavoro personale, di gruppo

4° sessione: assemblea

Domenica

1° sessione: Assemblea conclusiva

2° sessione: Verifica e conclusione

This meeting for the Revision of the Manual of the Rector originates in the mandate of GC27 #69.11: to update the Manual of the Rector (MSD).

After the recent study seminar on Salesian Personal Accompaniment (22-24 April 2016, Casa Generalizia, Rome), however, we received a feedback from some of you: The Salesian Rector is a theme of primary importance for the life of the congregation and for the question of ongoing formation. This is the figure that has most been affected by the cultural, social, religious and Salesian changes of the recent years. We need to rethink not just the Manual but the figure, identity, roles and functions of the Salesian Rector. And this is true.

We could ask: why did GC27 ask us to revise the MSD?

• GC27 #69.11 is part of the second great theme of the chapter, Prophets of Fraternity
• the Goal outlined in #63 is “to witness to a radical gospel approach by means of continual spiritual, fraternal and pastoral conversion” … by building up authentic communities through relationships and works in accordance with the FAMILY SPIRIT
• The processes outlined in #68: to be PROPHETS of fraternity we need to move
  • from functional and formal relationships to warm and supportive ones, relationships of profound communion;
  • from prejudice and closure to fraternal correction and reconciliation.
• Among the steps outlined in #69 we find n. 11: Seeing to the updating of the Handbooks for Rectors and for Provincials… But also n. 10: Evaluating and relaunching the proposal for formation of Rectors (called for already in GC21, 46-47, and GC25, 63-65) as part of the next six year plan.

That is why we have reformulated the objectives of this meeting: Taking as reference point the Manual of the Salesian Rector (1986) and what has been said about the Salesian Rector in the subsequent documents of the Congregation, let’s focus on

1. the present situation of the service of animation and guidance of Salesian Rectors in the various regions of the world;
2. the areas that need more attention and study within this basic service of animation and leadership;
3. …and find together realistic and effective itineraries to propose as responses to the emerging challenges, devising helpful instruments for the Provinces and local communities in their effort to renew themselves and value at the best the fundamental role that Rector have in the life of the Congregation.

The method that we will follow is that of our last chapter, and also the one we used in the Seminar on Salesian Spiritual Accompaniment: accessing experience, or LISTENING, DISCERNING, DECIDING, or simply, See, Judge, Act. This was also the method of the last two synods. One of the convictions of Pope Francis is that God speaks also through the people. The pope has always been against a certain elitism, even in the area of liberation theology. The synods were moments of vast listening to the experience of the people of God.

Our Constitutions speak of the Salesian who learns to meet God through those to whom he is sent, who discovers the fruits of the Spirit in the lives of men, specially the young; who knows to discern in events the voice of the Spirit, acquiring thus the capacity to learn from life. All this is valid not only for youth and people, but also for our confreres and for the congregation. Our seminar will be an attempt to listen to what the Spirit is telling us through our experience and that of our confreres.

Listening and discerning is born of faith: we are convinced that God exists, and that he is working to bring us all to himself. We are convinced that we are part of the risen Body of Jesus, and that his Spirit is at work building us up and transforming us into the likeness of the risen Lord. That is why there may be difficulties, but no room for despair. That is why we can listen with patience to what the Spirit is telling us.
