OUR JOURNEY SO FAR
One with God is majority. May the name of our God be blessed both now and forever… Amen.
We have so far managed to meet many families in this our mission and God has actually been
doing great things in their lives. Some of our hosts were recently discharged from the hospital
as Ebola free persons after they had followed our advice to them during our house to house
awareness. It’s a thing of great joy for us and a thanksgiving to God.
According to the parish priest, the Archbishop was very grateful with our contributions to his
charity initiative. According to him, the current situation of our country at the moment is a
thing of pity and we need more prayers and work towards it. “Faith and Work” Faith without a
GOOD WORK is Dead… he encouraged us to continue as much as we can afford and contribute
in this fight against this Ebola Virus because it has caused a lot of damages to the nations and
even the church in Liberia.
This our last journey was not easy due to the trials and challenges we faced. In the recent times,
there have been rumors of some bad group of people poisoning the water wells in the name of
sanitizing it and that has killed some people in the various communities. So this made some of
the villagers we visited in Gwaa village (Bomi County) raised a suspicious idea about us and
raised an alarm which called the attention of the other villagers. They interrogated us with the
police about our mission. We explained our mission to them with some old pictures I was
having on my phone. We were detained until later in the evening when the officer in charge
(Mr. Kamara) of that particular police depot came to free us after their investigation on the
other families we visited. We were told to use some of the items we give out to the families just
to make sure that they are not poisoned. We did by washing our face and our hands with those
materials (Tarr soap, chloride and chlorine). All these made them to believe that we were for
good and not for destruction. This was followed by with a deep apology to us. The news about
some of the health workers who were killed and displaced in Guinea during their normal house
to house routine on Ebola made us to be more traumatic during the incident but God really
saved us. It was not easy for my companions to accept the terrible experience but I tried to let
them accept it in good faith bearing in mind that our main aim is to please God and save lives as
much as we can. We should take it as part of life and more blessings from God.
New Mission Trend
According to the newly arrived foreign health experts from America and Europe, there is a big
chance of surviving Ebola illness if they are given a proper treatment and care with these items:
1. Blood (If the patient is transfused with fresh blood from the blood bank, they will
definitely be cured. Even, the Ebola survivors are advised to donate blood when they are fully recovered for their blood is also very important for the recovery of the other
affected patients).
2. Food ( good nutrition can help to fasten the recovery)
3. Beds and Matrasses (there are more patients than the beds facilities in the hospitals
which has led to the refusal of new patients. This can cause more spreading of the virus
if there is no accommodation for new patients)
4. Health workers ( more people are needed to work as health workers in the hospitals and
this will cost more as in the payment of the salaries)
5. Protective materials ( the health workers need this material for their work so that they
do not contract the virus as they do their job)
This has been proven and confirmed by the foreign health experts that were brought from
America and Europe and some parts of Africa (Uganda and Congo) and has been successful so
far in the treatment of the Ebola patients.
We have decided to help enormously in this area as it is the urgent need of the situation. So we
are going to be contributing more to the Archbishop’s charity inline to help in the buying of
these materials and making sure that it reaches to the Ebola patients directly and freely. This is
because we cannot reach directly to the isolation centers as the case maybe since the
Archbishop’s charity has been of great help for us in reaching directly to the isolation centers.

Il nostro cammino fino ad adesso
Uno solo con Dio dalla sua parte fa la maggioranza. Sia il nome del Signore benedetto ora e per sempre... Amen. Siamo riusciti a incontrare numerose famiglie in questa nostra missione e il Signore sta davvero facendo cose grandi nella loro vita. Alcuni di quelli che abbiamo aiutato sono stati dimessi pochi giorni fa dal'ospedale come oramai guariti dall'ebola, dopo che hanno seguito il consiglio che avevano loro dato nelle nostre visite di casa in casa. E' un motivo di grande gioia per noi e di ringraziamento verso il Signore.
A dire del nostro parroco, l'arcivescovo di Monrovia è molto riconoscente per il contributo offerto alla sua iniziativa caritativa. Secondo la sua parola, la sitazione del paese in questo momento è a dir poco pietosa. C'è bisogno di intensificare la preghiera e le iniziative: preghiera e lavoro. La preghiera senza un lavoro serio è morta. Ci ha incoraggiati a continuare più che possiamo con il contributo che stiamo offrendo in quesat lotta contro il virus dell 'ebola, che sta causando danni enormi al paese e anche alla chiesa in Liberia.
Il nostro ultimo viaggio non è stato facile a causa delle diffcilotà e delle sfide che abbiamo incontrato. Negli ultimi tempi si sono sparse dicerie circa alcuni gruppi di maleintenzionati che avrebbero avvelenato i pozzi con la scusa di risanarne le acqye, causando la morte di numerose persone nele comunità rurali. Questa diceria ha fatto sì che alcuni degli abitanti del paese di Gwaa (nella contea di Bomi) abbiano divulgato sospetti sulla nostra presenza, dando l'allarme e attirando l'attenzione dell'intero villaggio. Ci hanno sottoposti a un interrogatorio insieme alla loro polizia locale. Abbiamo spiegato la nostra missione facendo vedere alcune delle foto delle precedenti spedizioni che avevo sul telefono. Siamo stati rinchiusi in custodia fino a sera, fino a che il capo di quel posto di polizia ci ha rimessi in libertà dopo aver fatto indagini presso le famiglie che avevamo visitato precedentemente. Ci è stato quindi richiesto di utilizzare noi per primi il materiale che avevamo portato per la distribuzione, per dimostrare che non si trattava di veleno. Lo abbiamo fatto lavandoci le mani e la faccia con quel materiale sanitario (sapone antisettico, disinfettanti a base di cloro).
Finalmente si sono convinti che la nsotra missione era di aiuto e non con scopi maligni. Ne è seguita una sincera e prolungata pubblica richiesta di scuse. La notizia che era giunta precedentemente dalla Guinea, dove alcuni operartori sanitari sono stati messi a morte durante una delle loro viste di casa in casa per la prevenzione dell'ebola, ci aveva fatto temere il peggio. Ma il Signore ci ha davvero protetti e salvati. Non è stato facile per il mio gruppo superare questo trauma ma poco per volta ho cercato di far loro capire che il nostro scopo è di fare quanto facciamo per il Signore e per salvare vite nella maggior misua possibile. Fa parte della vita ed è un modo attravesro cui il Signore ci fa sentire la sue benedizioni.
Nuovi orientamenti per la nostra missone
Secondo gli esperti recentemente giunti sia dall’Europa che dall'America, c'è una buona probabilità di sopravvivenza dall'ebola se c'è un trattatmento adeguato delle persone affette dal morbo, utilizzando in particolare:
1. Trasfusioni di sangue. Sono molto efficaci. Anche chi è stato colpito da ebola ed è guarito è incoraggiato a donare sangue, dal momento che il suo sangue è particolarmente imporante per le terapie che vengon meese in opera per l’assistenza di altre persone colpite.
2. Buona alimentazione (facilita e velocizza la guarigione)-
3. Letti e materassi. Ci sono più malati che posti letto. Questo ha fatto sì che dei nuovi malati non fossero accettati in ospedale. Inevitabilmente si favorisce in questo modo un ulteriore propagazione della malattia.
4. Personale sanitario. C'è urgente bisogno di più operatori sanitari negli ospedali. e questo comporta anche maggiori costi nela gestione (più stipendi etc...)
5. materiale protettivo, indispensabile per chi si prende cura dei malati, per proteggersi ed evitare di venire a loro volta contagiati.
Questo è quando esperti dall'estero (inclusi dottori venuti dall'Uganda e dal Congo) raccomandano, e chge si è già dimostato efficace.
Abbiamo pertanto deciso di rivolgere il nostro aiuto il più possibile in questa direzione. Qundi indirizzeremo il nostro aiuto (lavoro e risorse che ci vengono inviate dall’Italia o riusciamo a raccogliere in loco) alla iniziativa caritativa dell'Arcivesovo (caritas), aiutando ad acquistare il materiale e facendo in modo che raggiunga direttamene e senza costi i malati di ebola. Da soli non saremmo in grado di raggiungere e contribuire nell’aiutare i centri di raccoolta dei malati, metre questo ci è possibile attarverso la iniziativa caritativa dell’ Arcivescovo.
