Joyeux Noël et bonne année! - Happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year! - ¡Felix Navidad y próspero Año Nuevo! - Buon Natale e felice Anno Nuovo! - Felix Natal e um Próspero Ano Novo!

Dear confreres,

We are coming to the end of 2009 and a highly significant moment: celebration and thanksgiving for 150 years of the Salesian Congregation, and together with this the renewal of our religious profession throughout the world. Congratulations for your life as a Salesian, congratulations for belonging to this great Congregation, and congratulations for committing your life to God, the Church and the young.

This time I have three points to bring to your attention. The first concerns the meeting of the Italy-MOR Region towards the end of November. It was a gathering marked by good participation, and full of pleasant surprises in various Social Communication areas, which augurs well too for an issue of fundamental importance: creating teamwork.

The second point is in reference to “Salesians 2010”, the new magazine published at the end of November. It presents the Congregation in its daily life as experienced around the world. The articles are short, narrative testimonies with which we would like to reach all those who are in sympathy with Don Bosco and the work of education and evangelisation on behalf of the young, especially the poorest of them. The hope is, with your help, to be able to improve it and publish it annually.

And thirdly, we are getting ready, early in the coming year, for various continental meetings involving Directors of Salesian Publishing Houses. We want to locate these enterprises solidly within our identity and mission, identifying the results, risks, threats and opportunities for our Publishers in this arena which is so competitive. Here team work too is just as fundamental.

May I conclude, both in my own name and that of the Department Team, by wishing you a happy Christmas and God's blessings in the New Year.

In Don Bosco: Fr. Filiberto
