Happy 20th Anniversary SUMMERDAZE Camp

For 20 years, the Salesian parish of St. Benedict in Toronto, Canada, has been running a 4 week day camp in July. “Summerdaze” pulses with youthful energy.
Based at the parish and using the gyms and fields of two neighboring schools, Summerdaze offers a rich program of sports, games, music, drama, outings, prayer, rosary making, as well as opportunities for the sacrament of reconciliation and weekly Eucharist.

This year, 300 youngsters attended, under the capable leadership of 50 youth leaders. These leaders strive to animate the camp in Don Bosco’s spirit. Prior to camp, they attend a week-long leadership training retreat which offers them formation in Salesian spirituality and youth ministry.

The “camp culture” is intensely “oratorian” and is the fruit of dedicated collaboration between Salesians and many generous lay collaborators.
A camp reunion, called Winter Daze, is held every year in January for the feast of Don Bosco.

Our new challenge is to launch Sat-R-Daze, a type of weekly oratory whose aim is to keep the Summerdaze shining throughout the year.
