Dar Dun Bosco Oratory

Once again, this summer, Dar Dun Bosco Oratory (Don Bosco's Home) in the village of Dingli, was full of organized activity. Besides daily Mass, the several summer highlights included encounters of games with youths from the Salesian House of St. Patrick's in the city of Sliema; a Volleyball tournament; an afternoon of Go Carting; a Cultural Outing to a car showroom; a bike-hike and a cook-out; and finally, to finish off the summer holidays, a big barbeque on one of the largest beaches of Malta for all members and friends, during which were played small tournaments of Beach Volley and Beach Soccer.

Savio College

At Savio College, the summer was a continuous succession of school-camps. The theme for this year was 'Are you ready to make a difference?' Around a total of 500 boys and girls drew benefit from the full and enriching programme planned and animated by Fr Louis Grech SDB and his team of around 40 youths. This was an opportunity to challenge youngsters in a positive way and to help them grow in a holistic way, whilst giving the youth a golden opportunity to find a deeper meaning of life in Jesus Our Lord. The list of activities done during these camps is long and varied: from a treasure hunts to water games, from swimming to formation sessions, from a talent show to football tournaments. And faithful to Don Bosco, the Eucharist was the centre and focus of all these daily activities.

Oratory of Sliema

At the Oratory of Sliema, the summer was again full of activities for members, friends and families, with the aim of giving the youth an opportunity to give a voluntary service to others. The season of summer activities at the oratory opened up with a typically Maltese meal followed by a two-hour talent show of sketches, singing and dancing, put up by youths and parents. Towards mid-July the annual ‘Bosco Summer School’ started off with 150 children. There were 40 animators all volunteers, for this summer school. They came from different Salesian houses in Malta. In-mid August the “Salesian Boys' and Girls' Brigade” spent 6 days under canvas in the Maltese countryside with a varied and challenging programme of activities.
Then, for all the members of the Sliema Oratory, there was the 3rd edition of the Night Hike and Ghost Hunt in the countryside. A day’s outing to the small island of Comino was a relaxing and fun activity, in which youths could swim, have rides on power boats and have guided tours around the many splendid caves in the cliffs of the island.
One must also mention the Past-Pupils' reunion as part of the centenary celebrations of the Oratory of Sliema, which included Mass of thanksgiving followed by a talent show.

A summer time full of ‘salesianity’. Don Bosco must surely be very happy.
